Paprika Recipe Manager for iPhone App Reviews

Amazing almost

This app is great I no longer have to search for recipes that I have and where I put them in what cookbook. Or anything like that The only thing that is missing is that Im not able to add JPEGs to the recipe because I can take a screenshot of recipes in books with my phone and then imported into this app would be wonderful

Such a Disappointment!

I bought the iPhone, iPad and Mac apps on Nov 2015. I managed to store at least 1400 recipes. The UI is OK, however, where it failed is the “search” function. It is beyond awful. You can only search for recipe if you know exactly what you are looking for. If you misspelled even one letter or added another letter or word that does not follow the exact description, you will receive “ZERO” result. It has no capability of searching for a particular “item/ingredient” in a recipe. You MUST spell the “TITLE” of the recipe accurately or you won’t be able to achieve any results from your search. The search function is very rudimentary. The “pantry” section is a freaking joke. It is excruciatingly limited. You can not add any item. You are stuck to what they already have in the database. I repeat, if you want to add items that aren’t in the database, you are SOL. You do not have the option to add any items on your pantry. The “pantry” feature is completely limited to “item” list only. It does not allow you to include feature/info such as quantity, expiration date, container size (weight such oz, grams, etc.). I repeat, if you have a can of tomato paste, you are only allowed to add “tomato paste.” You do not have any options to list how many cans or jars of tomato paste you have. Nor, you have an option to include info such as expiration date and the amount of tomato paste you have in your pantry. Paprika isn’t ready for Prime Time.

Great app!

Love the app, just wish I could import via images. Having to type everything in is painful. If I could just take a picture of my recipes and save them that way, it would be perfect.

Very disappointing!

This app could get a 5 star review if there was even minimal customer support. I decided to switch to Paprika after many years using MacGourmet, because MacGourmet broke and it became difficult to impossible to import recipes from the web. Paprika does that and much more beautifully. BUT there is some issue with how the iPhone app is syncing, causing me to have double the number of recipes as on my Mac. Every recipe is duplicated. It is likely that this could be fixed with simple instructions from the app developers. BUT they dont respond to a ticket submitted on the website, Twitter, etc. So proceed at your own risk - one cant receive any customer support.

GREAT recipe app!

Purchased for the iPhone. Works great. Saves recipes from every web site I’ve tried so far. Easy to categorize recipes. Better view of recipe list than other apps I tried. I like the shopping list feature. It also allows you to tick off ingredients as you’ve used them AND set timers inside the app as you are following the recipe steps. Worth the money.

Easy to See Calorie Indicator

It’d be super helpful to have a way to see the calories posted when you click on your saved recipe instead of having to click edit and searching for it. Also, there should an option to sort based on calories as well. This would be a great option for people who are dieting, etc.

Well Worth Cost

This is one of only a few apps that I have ever purchased and it has become indispensable for managing and using recipes. While it could be improved around the margins, it makes life so much easier with cloud syncing, automatic recipe scaling, ratings, categorization, and built-in grocery list function. Im surprised its not more popular.

I use this every day

Ive been using this app almost every day for years, finding and importing recipes on my Mac, cooking from them on the iPad propped up in the kitchen, and checking ingredients on my iPhone while grocery shopping. Its beautifully done, never crashes, and is full of useful touches (like tapping on time instructions to start a timer, pinning multiple recipes so you can flip between them, and easily scaling whole recipes up and down). If it had a tab for kitchen measurement conversions, itd be even more perfect!

Great app. Timer doesnt work

I love this app. It seems very stable and is so easy to use as long as your recipes are online. I used the timer this morning and it never alerted me it was done so I wont be using that again. I also dont like that I have to pay for each version of the app. But all in all its what Ive been looking for...just with a few annoyances.

Love this app for recipes.

I have used this app for years on both my iPhone and iPad. I love the idea of meal planning/shopping list feature but I dont use it because of a few flaws. #1, I want to be able to add things to my shopping list that are not part of my meal plans. For example, I dont have a recipe for a side salad but need to buy ingredients for it. #2, the pantry makes more sense to me as a list of staples that I keep. If I need to buy more I would like to be able to click on the item from the pantry to add it to my list. Fix those things and I would buy it all again!

5 Stars if I could get notifications on grocery list update

This app is fantastic! Honestly, love it. We put all of our recipes in here and loading new recipes is a breeze. Easy to search for, easy to add ingredients to the grocery list. My only wish is that I could receive a notification when something is added to the grocery list. My wife and I share the app and sometimes she puts things on the list when Im at the store, but I dont know it unless she tells me she did it. I would submit a feature request, but according to their website, people have been abusing it and they are only accepting bug reports of certain kinds. :(

Pantry customization please!!!

Is this a really difficult update? Its ridiculous that I cant customize the pantry list. Have chorizo? Yes! What if I have some chorizo salami and also some links to cook? Nope! Sorry - no choices in the pantry for you! Cant change the category (from meat to deli), cant add your own entry. Buy a special ingredient like xylitol? Sorry! Cant add it! Very frustrating for the price.

Lots to love, could be a lot more user friendly

Things I love about this app: Imports and exports recipes easily Grocery lists based on recipes Categorization of meal type (breakfast, dinner, etc) An open recipe keeps phone lock off while cooking Areas in which it could improve: User customization (cant add grocery aisles names or numbers; grocery list auto-aisle sorts i.e. OJ to juice instead of dairy/aisle 18) Phone lock is on in grocery adding/shopping mode (would love to have this as a setting) Flipping between two recipes i.e. Marinara sauce and turkey meatballs. This used to be a little easier in "recent recipes", but that no longer seems to work in current version. Paying for multiple apps for an individual/ household (our household would use 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, a surface pro, and maybe a desktop, but we dont because that would be ridiculous at these price points). Trial versions dont allow for sharing so it is hard to trust that paying for the app on another device would actually be helpful. Menus only allow for recipes to be listed. Im not sure why you cant then click on the recipe to actually view it as is possible everywhere else in the app. That could solve the "switching between recipes for one meal" problem as listed above. Generally though, I have loved this app, have recommended it to friends for years, and it gets used daily.

If you cook, Paprika is necessary

I own Paprika on both iPhone and OS X and it is by far the most comprehensive and well-considered recipe management app there is. I use it daily. And amazingly the developer keeps making it better, with the latest free update giving you the ability to automatically read recipes off any website into Paprikas nice managed format.

Love this app

I use it to do "once a month cooking" and what used to take hours of sorting recipes, quadrupling ingredients, and creating a grocery list now takes literally minutes. What a time saver! Well worth the money.

Awesome update!!

I have always loved Paprika but this latest update is just awesome. Thank you so much for it.

The Best.

Thats all. Nothin left to say.

1 Star for requiring age of 17+

Had to remove restrictions on family iPad due to one app – this one. I understand the age rating is probably because of the browser, but other apps have figured out how to respect parental controls and lower the ratings to 4+.

Worth every penny

This is a great app that gets better with every update.

Best possible app for kitchen management

I have a large crew to feed each day FOR THREE MEALS...and am planning lunch before breakfast has ended! This is single handedly the best app Ive ever used to organize everything pertaining to my full-time kitchen work! I have the iPhone, iPad, and yes, even the Mac app, and they sync beautifully! Dont let the price of the Mac app deter you- its worth every dollar. It is so easy to import recipes and use the menu planner. The drag and drop functions make everything work perfectly and quickly. Each has its place- the iPhone is with me all the time as a quick referral, I look at it while grocery shopping to make sure Ive bought everything). The iPad is my main kitchen display. Perfect size for reading recipes. My Mac app is the one I use for organizing my weekly meal plan and downloading recipes. Now, with this new update (2/2016), they perfected the app to the maximum extent! Now I can go to my favorite recipe websites, and in a matter of seconds, have my recipe in Paprika, in a layout that I love!!! I am very pleased with this app. I use every aspect of it, from planning out my weekly menu, to the new and improved browser functions, to adjusting and scaling recipes! WONDERFUL KITCHEN ORGANIZATION HELPER!!!! Would give 10 stars if I could!!!!!!! If I could give one suggestion, it would be that they add a grocery list integrated in it. I currently use "Our Groceries" app and have not found any that can match that. Ill bet the developers of Paprika could top it and integrate it if they tried!!
